about

Once our protagonists manage to avoid temptation, they begin to find some clarity about themselves and the journey, and they gain some self understanding through reflection. Miles and Johnaye sing the duet here, and we hear John Clark on the horn solo.

lyrics

I had no eyes before
No glasses for
A vision like you
I had no ears to hear your songs
Those echoes of a perfect life
So far gone.

Cause nothing’s permanent
Life drifts on we have no choice.

Still somehow that fantasy
That waking dream lives on.

But the wind blows us on
No choice off we go
It’s all gone but the memory
Once it used to be so good
If I had a mouth to sing
I’d sing that life is hard
It’s short but full of twists.

Embrace the fantasy
The waking dream
Before it all gets away
It was something special indeed
We won’t be there again.

Was life a tragedy, a lunacy a folly of wasted time
So many foolish years gone by
The errors of my younger days
Too late now.

Cause life has consequence
Paths that haunt us ‘til the end.

Nothing but absurdity
This deep regret ruins me.

Still our life carries on
somehow, off we go
So old now yet I’m still a fool
this my destiny my fate
And I’d do it all again
In just the same old way
the same old fool again.

I love the lunacy the comedy
the luxury of it all
It was something special indeed, we won’t be there again.
